Sugaring is a hair removal technique that originated in Egypt and used for removal of body hair. Although it is similar to waxing, however it is completely natural.
In sugaring hair removal, a solution composed of sugar, lemon juice and warm water is used. The solution is warmed up and spread over the skin in the direction of the growth of the hair. Once the solution settles down on the skin, a cotton cloth is put over it and pressed. Then in a sharp movement, the cloth is pulled off in the direction opposite to the hair growth. This removes the unwanted hair along with the paste.
As compared to waxing this process is much less painful, as the sugar just sticks to the hair not the skin. Also the sugar is not as hot as wax when it is used for the hair removal process.
So a lot of people prefer sugaring to waxing, as it uses only natural products instead of any harmful chemicals. After sugaring, one can wash off the sugar with warm water only. As against this wax has a petroleum base.
Certain things should be kept in mind while removing hair with sugaring. For best results, one should trim longer hair to an optimal length of about 6 mm. It should be made sure that before starting the process, hair should be dry and clean. If any cream or oil has been applied, it should be washed off. Then to completely dry up the hair, talcum powder should be used.
After applying the sugar paste, one should keep in mind that the cotton cloth used should be left free at one corner, so that it can be pulled off easily later. While using a spatula, the edge should be used so that a fine layered is applied.
Another important thing to keep in mind is that the cloth should be pulled off in a swift action and not slowly. Besides, the skin should be held tight with a hand, as the cloth is being pulled back against the growth of the hair.
One should be careful about the size of the skin area too. The paste should be applied over a small area only at a given time. And the temperature of the paste should also be taken care of properly. If the solution is too hot, it might burn the skin and cause rashes. If one is using water to heat up the solution, instead of microwave, one should take care that hot water isn’t allowed into paste, as the solution is soluble in water.
Both men and women can use sugaring, to remove hair from almost anywhere on the body, like, eyebrows, legs, arms, upper lip, underarms, bikini line and stomach. However in men, it can be used to remove beard hair owing to the sensitivity of the facial skin and hair roots.
So, sugaring is one of the best ways for achieving beautiful and smooth hairless skin, right at home.
